Review
“Chapman and Gratz expand the boundaries of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and provide readers with a practical blueprint for managing destructive and excessive anger reactions. A must-read for anyone interested in reducing problematic anger, improving relationships, and enhancing inner peace.”
—Raymond Chip Tafrate, PhD, professor and clinical psychologist in the department of criminology and criminal justice at Central Connecticut State University, coeditor of Forensic CBT, and coauthor of Anger Management for Everyone

“Anger is an emotion that we all experience in varying degrees. However, intense and poorly modulated anger can greatly interfere with clients’ efforts at a central goal of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT): ‘building a life worth living.’ This compassionately written and motivating workbook is an essential resource for helping clients to understand, express, and effectively manage their anger in nondestructive ways. By teaching clients to apply core DBT skills specifically to help them cope with and manage their anger, this book is an indispensable and potentially life-changing therapeutic tool.”
—Lori N. Scott, PhD, assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and clinical psychologist and researcher with expertise in emotion dysregulation, aggression, and treatment approaches for borderline personality disorder

“Anyone who gets angry will benefit from learning the skills in this highly readable yet scientifically sound book.”
—Ruth Baer, PhD, professor of psychology at the University of Kentucky, and author of The Practicing Happiness Workbook

“Chapman and Gratz have given us an excellent workbook that clearly explains dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) theory and shows us how to easily apply DBT skills to episodes of anger. It is clearly written, with many worksheets that help make the concepts come alive. Working through their mindfulness and emotion regulation exercises will surely be of help to all adults who suffer from problematic anger. I strongly recommend this workbook.”
—Howard Kassinove, PhD, ABPP, professor of psychology and director of the Institute for the Study and Treatment of Anger and Aggression at Hofstra University

“This much-needed workbook is sure to be a source of hope and relief for those who struggle with anger. Combining evidence-based skills with engaging examples and useful worksheets, this is a practical guide that will help readers learn strategies that work, and identify ways of using these skills in their daily lives. I highly recommend The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook for Anger.”
—Katherine L. Dixon-Gordon, PhD, professor of psychology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst

“It’s easy to chastise those who don’t control their anger and suggest their problem lies in a lack of motivation, but we now know that for many, the problem lies in a lack of anger management skills. This easy-to-read and easy-to-use workbook is framed in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and lays out a road map for identifying anger triggers and the skills that are essential to handling these triggers. Most impressive, the workbook artfully provides the reader with a broad menu of strategies while allowing each individual to zero in and really focus in the areas most central to their own struggles.”
—Carl Lejuez, professor of psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park; founding director of the Center for Addictions, Personality, and Emotion Research; and founding editor of the journal Personality Disorders: Theory, Research, and Treatment

“Chapman and Gratz have tackled the significant human challenge of anger and provide a much-needed, easy-to-follow, step-by-step guide to making anger ‘an ally rather than an enemy.’ They provide skillful guidance in better understanding, recognizing, and responding to our own angry responses so that anger does not disrupt our lives. Their practical, compassionate approach will help clients (and therapists who work with them) to learn new skills for managing their anger, including how to express it effectively and how to recover following angry interactions. I highly recommend this book to anyone who struggles with anger, and to those committed to helping them lead more satisfying lives.”
—Lizabeth Roemer, PhD, professor of psychology at the University of Massachusetts Boston, and coauthor of The Mindful Way through Anxiety

“The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook for Anger by Chapman and Gratz uses current dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) emotion theory and behavioral principles to create a practical, easy-to-read guidebook for managing unhelpful anger. Complex theory is broken down—step-by-step—into principles of change and then translated into realistic skills and user-friendly worksheets. This manual is a must-read for anyone struggling with how to understand, express, or regulate anger.”
—Thomas R. Lynch, PhD, FBPsS, professor and director of the School of Psychology and director of the Emotion and Personality Bio-behavioural Laboratory at the University of Southampton, as well as chief investigator at REFRAMED

“Dysregulated anger is a major part of the emotional instability dimension of borderline personality disorder (BPD). This skills workbook by Chapman and Gratz presents clients, in enriched detail, an abundant array of techniques, self-learning schemes, and practical exercises to enhance anger control capacity. Well done.”
—Raymond W. Novaco, PhD, professor at the University of California, Irvine

“In The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook for Anger, authors Chapman and Gratz present a nuanced view of anger, pointing out the benefits as well as the pitfalls of this complex and vexing emotion. The authors provide a thorough education on anger, beginning with a useful description of the many diagnoses and clinical presentations that anger often accompanies. They then walk readers through the components of anger, vulnerability factors for anger, keys to recognizing anger, and consequences of anger. They include strategies for increasing commitment to changing it, describe a range of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills for reducing it, provide methods to express it appropriately, offer ways of changing thinking that fuels it, and, importantly, suggest ways to repair relationships after inevitable anger ‘slipups’ occur. The book includes relevant case vignettes and numerous easy-to-use worksheets that help readers engage with and apply the material. Chapman and Gratz have produced a work in easy-to-understand, clear language that makes behavior therapy principles and DBT skills for the emotion of anger readily accessible to readers. I highly recommend their insightful and helpful book!”
—Jill Rathus, PhD, professor of psychology at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, and codirector of Cognitive Behavioral Associates in Great Neck, NY

The Body Electric: How Strange Machines Built the Modern American (American History and Culture), by Carolyn Thomas de la Pena

Between the years 1850 and 1950, Americans became the leading energy consumers on the planet, expending tremendous physical resources on energy exploration, mental resources on energy exploitation, and monetary resources on energy acquisition. A unique combination of pseudoscientific theories of health and the public’s rudimentary understanding of energy created an age in which sources of industrial power seemed capable of curing the physical limitations and ill health that plagued Victorian bodies. Licensed and “quack” physicians alike promoted machines, electricity, and radium as invigorating cures, veritable “fountains of youth” that would infuse the body with energy and push out disease and death.

The Body Electric is the first book to place changing ideas about fitness and gender in dialogue with the popular culture of technology. Whether through wearing electric belts, drinking radium water, or lifting mechanized weights, many Americans came to believe that by embracing the nation's rapid march to industrialization, electrification, and “radiomania,” their bodies would emerge fully powered. Only by uncovering this belief’s passions and products, Thomas de la Peña argues, can we fully understand our culture’s twentieth-century energy enthusiasm.

Review

“Transforming archival research into sparkling prose, The Body Electric explains how Americans learned to use machines to seek health, sexual rejuvenation, and physical transformation. This innovative book is both an entertaining history of fads and foibles and a groundbreaking cultural critique of the continuing obsession with achieving physical perfection.”
-David E. Nye,author of Electrifying America and America as Second Creation

“Not only provides a richly detailed and suprising account of long-forgotten artifacts, but also fleshes out the longer history of some still-familiar attitudes toward health and vitality.”
-Journal of Social History

“This provocative exploration of the concept of energy in American medicine deftly ranges across medical theories, exercise machines and their inventors, early human potential movements, popular fads of electricity and radiation, and the national mood at the turn of the twentieth century. The author writes with wit and sympathy about medical theories and devices that may now seem like outright quackery but that formerly appealed to the educated as well as the gullible in their elusive search for good health. Building upon on a vast and vastly entertaining literature of medical pamphlets and ephemera, Carolyn Thomas de la Peña brings a discerning intelligence and an energetic analytic style to the cultural history of medicine, faith, science, and technology.”
-Jeffrey L. Meikle,University of Texas, Austin

“The Body Electric is the so-far missing puzzle piece in our nineteenth-twentieth century knowledge of the social history of the human body and technology—a richly illustrated study showing two centuries of technologizing the human body against fears of weakness, enervation, sexual depletion.”

-Cecelia Tichi, author of Shifting Gears: Technology, Literature, Culture in Modernist America

“Covers its subject well, provides useful context, and makes lively reading for anyone interested in the history of technology, the social context of electricity and radioactive materials, or the history of alternative medicine.”
-Technology and Culture

You'll never look at your StairMaster in quite the same way

Carolyn Thomas de la Pena has written a masterful book. In exploring the ways Americans have used their bodies to understand new technologies, she sheds light on the origins of our own interactions with modern machines. The author supports her findings with meticulously researched facts, and it is clear she spent exhausting hours in the archives, combing through newspaper articles, advertisements, and product materials. She does an equally thorough job of contextualizing her conclusions. By linking her findings to social and cultural shifts taking place at the same time people were drinking radium water or experimenting with electric belts, she strengthens her argument and is able to draw new and important conclusions about the ways Americans were using technology around the turn of the twentieth century. Her clear and concise writing style make the book a smooth and enjoyable read, besides being one that is extremely relevant to our modern lives.

Electrifying
By Catherine Vade Bon Coeur
As I read this book, I marveled at the way in which Ms. Thomas de la Pena explained in detail the obsession Americans have had for so long with physical fitness and weight loss techniques; the belief by many Americans that their bodies, after use of some of these documented, extreme -- to us -- measures, would emerge greatly improved. This book helps us energy-bar-eating, aerobically-charged, iron-pumping 21st-Century individuals understand how it is that we got this way!

Brilliant, Clear, Essential
By A Customer
This book shows that our current obsessions with our bodies and machines have roots as old as the rise of consumer electricity. Technology in America takes on religious forms. And Professor de la Pena shows the extent of influence of such ideas as "electricity as therapy." This is so well written you won't be able to put it down. It explains complex technological details in clear and precise terms. Its influence should last a long time.

A collection to cherish
By Sarah Stockton Howell
Nayyirah Waheed's poetry changed me the moment I first read it and continues to open my heart as I sit with it more. Salt is a stark, beautiful collection of works that are startling in their brevity and breathtaking in their profundity. Waheed delves into the essence of the human heart, of womanhood, of the experience of being a person of color living in a centuries-old diaspora. As a white woman, I experience both deep kinship with her words--particularly those that speak to my humanity and womanhood--and also a sense that it is an honor for me to be a witness to her writing on race and ethnicity. Salt sparked something in me that had long lay dormant, and I have been reading and even writing poetry with a gusto and joy I didn't know I missed until I encountered Waheed's work. There is healing and delight and playfulness and lament and righteous anger in this book. Read it, cherish it, and never be the same.

Wondrous.
By Z.N.K.
As someone with an extremely fast reading speed, I usually race through novels and the like. Nayyirah Waheed's work stopped me. I devoured the first few poems, and then slowed. Then I stopped completely. I was sitting in my lawn, and I could feel my heartbeat thrumming through my veins as I read each poem slowly, savoring it. To be honest, I spent potential textbook money on this work, and regretted it the entire time I was waiting for the product to arrive. Then I held it and read it and fell in love with the words and this is probably the most worthy book I've purchased all semester. Planning to buy another copy for my favorite teacher later this year.

The pictures are quite small and aren't labled on the picture
      By H. Culbertson
This book is VERY informative, but it makes it harder to study when the pictures are labeled with numbers and you have to then match the numbers with a key. Overall, still a useful study tool and a convenient layout.

      I like this book
      By v.f.
It's a good size with good information. Doesn't really help you chart the course of peripheral nerves too much, but it's done a nice job for me so far on brainstem anatomy. I also like how the ear and eye have their own chapters, so its pretty easy to flip right to the section you need. The numbering identification system takes a little getting used to, but it works. I haven't found any errors yet, but I don't use it that much, mostly as a supplement resource to help visualize things I can't find in Netters Atlas or a new edition of Grays Anatomy. I don't regret this purchase.

Cancun and Mayan Riviera Travel Guide (Unanchor) - 5-Day Itinerary, by Ted Campbell

Cancun and Mayan Riviera 5-Day Itinerary (Updated February 2016)
Most famous for Cancun, the Mayan Riviera is Mexico's tourist fantasyland, a jungle coastline of white-sand beaches, ancient Mayan ruins, laid-back colonial towns, and clear-water cenotes, freshwater sinkholes and caves found throughout the flat limestone sponge of the Yucatán peninsula.

Many visitors stay at a resort in Cancun. These all-inclusive monstrosities can be a good deal. You'll be right on the beach, have a pool, get unlimited food and drinks, and all-in-all have a fun, relaxing vacation.

But even if the package includes some tours, you won't get to know Mexico. How could you? Why would you venture into downtown Cancun for real tacos when you have a free buffet in your luxury hotel? Why would you travel inland to Valladolid when the pool party starts at 10 a.m. every day?

Though Cancun is known for big resorts and mass tourism, and formerly lesser-known beach hangouts like Playa del Carmen are now firmly established on the beaten path, a budget-conscious side remains in these world-class tourist destinations. You can still get a nice hotel room for under $30 USD in downtown Cancun or a few blocks from the beach in Playa del Carmen. And for the best, most authentic regional food – what the locals eat – you'll pay less than at McDonald's.

What is an Unanchor travel guide itinerary?

Each Unanchor travel guide is an itinerary that includes a detailed planned timeline of sites to go see, maps, and directions, including insider tips and alternative destinations. It's like having a personal tour guide in your pocket, but with the freedom to deviate from the plan and a much lower cost.

Where does your itinerary for Cancun and the Mayan Riviera take you?

This itinerary is written for the independent traveler who likes the beach but also wants some culture. Besides saving a lot of money, you will:

      - Have two full days on two gorgeous beaches: Cancun and Playa del Carmen.
      - Explore two Mayan ruins: Chichén Itzá, one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, and Tulum, a sunny fortress built on cliffs overlooking one of the most iconic beaches in Mexico.
      - Dip your toe into local culture in Valladolid, a small colonial town in central Yucatán.
      - Swim, snorkel, or scuba dive in the clear, freshwater Dos Ojos cenote.
      - Eat what Mexicans eat: seafood, tacos, and Yucatán specialties like panuchos and salbutes.
      - Shop, party, get tan, and learn some Spanish, history, and culture. And, if time permits, explore more places in the region, including Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, the Cobá ruins, Xpu-Ha beach, and Mérida.

Who is your Cancun and Mayan Riviera tour guide?

Ted Campbell is a freelance writer, translator, and university teacher who has lived in Mexico for more than 6 years. He travels extensively in the region, seeking out good deals and off-the-beaten-path destinations. Many of his travel articles and stories are published online and on his popular blog No Hay Bronca.

Why should you buy this Cancun and Mayan Riviera guide?

The Cancun and Mayan Riviera 5-day Itinerary offers complete hotel, restaurant, transportation, and sightseeing recommendations and includes a comprehensive appendix with sections like Food and Drinks, Places and Terminology, Useful Spanish Phrases, Money Matters, Safety, A Brief History, and Other Places to Go.

The itinerary will pay for itself the first time you follow the author's advice for a hotel, restaurant, bus, or cenote. Ted's email address is included, so you are welcome to write with any questions.

THIS IS REAL INFORMATION ABOUT CANCUN - YOU'LL LOVE IT!
      By Marco Garcia-albarran
I am mexican, and I must say, the author of this book REALLY DOES KNOW what he's talking about. If you want to experience the REAL Cancun/mayan riviera I strongly suggest to buy this guide. In fact this fully illustrated tool of information is an ideal asset for both for mexican citizens and foreigners alike, either you are planning a vacation or just to enjoy a good piece of easy reading.

You will find information of how to get real deals on transportation, accommodations; even food. Food! Through this guide, Mr. Campbell guides you thoroughly where to go and enjoy ACTUAL- traditional mexican cuisine.

Cancun is not just white sand beaches and nightclubs, as you will discover with the help of this guide, there are many places Yucatan Peninsula has to offer, and thus, make your vacations a Life-Time experience. Make sure your trip includes Cancun, Valladolid, Chichen Itza, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and of course, the cenotes.

Informative and insightful! Easily worth the small price!
      By Pete
My girlfriend and I just returned from our trip to Mexico and I have to say that this book made our Cancun leg a very pleasant experience. Reading this saved me a lot of time and effort running around. I appreciated how well written and easy to use it really was. I was able to get around both safely and confidently. There are plenty of unique and interesting recommendations the writer gives that ended up saving us mucho dinero! We were able to buy some excellent souvenirs to take back home with the money we saved from all of the book's helpful recommendations. For someone who isn't familiar with travel in Mexico like myself, or doesn't speak much Spanish, I would highly recommend packing this little gem in your bags to take along. Get this book!

Great guide for Cancun and Mayan region
      By Amazon Customer
I like this guide because it offers an economical way to see Cancun and the surrounding area without skipping the historical, cultural and recreational sites. Instead of recommending the huge chain hotels on the beach, the writer picks the smaller, less expensive hotels in town. Before booking rooms, I did some comparison shopping. By using the guide’s links I got better deals than what was offered on travel websites. This guide also lays out an itinerary of things to see and places to go by using local group transportation. It’s a cheaper way of getting around and the bus schedules, fares and routes are all provided. It even includes maps that are clearly labeled and easy to understand. This book is an excellent guide. It’s definitely written by someone who has a deep appreciation for traveling around Cancun and the Mayan region.

The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Civil War (The Politically Incorrect Guides), by H. W. Crocker III

Think you know the Civil War?
You don't know the full story until you read The Politically Incorrect GuideTM to the Civil War

Bestselling author and former Conservative Book Club editor H. W. Crocker III offers a quick and lively study of America's own Iliad--the Civil War--in this provocative and entertaining addition to The Politically Incorrect GuideTM series.

In The Politically Incorrect GuideTM to the Civil War Crocker profiles eminent--and colorful--military generals including the noble Lee, the controversial Sherman, the indefatigable Grant, the legendary Stonewall Jackson, and the notorious Nathan Bedford Forrest. He also includes thought-provoking chapters such as "The Civil War in Sixteen Battles You Should Know" and the most devastatingly politically incorrect chapter of all, "What If the South Had Won?" Along the way, he reveals a huge number of little-known truths, including why Robert E. Lee had a higher regard for African Americans than Lincoln did; how, if there had been no Civil War, the South would have abolished slavery peaceably (as every other country in the Western Hemisphere did in the nineteenth century); and how the Confederate States of America might have helped the Allies win World War I sooner. Bet your history professor never told you:
      * Leading Northern generals--like McClellan and Sherman--hated abolitionists
      * Bombing people "back to the Stone Age" got its start with the Federal siege of Vicksburg
      * General Sherman professed not to know which was "the greater evil": slavery or democracy
      * Stonewall Jackson founded a Sunday school for slaves where he taught them how to read
      * General James Longstreet fought the Battle of Sharpsburg in his carpet slippers

This is the Politically Incorrect GuideTM that every Civil War buff and Southern partisan--and everyone who is tired of liberal self-hatred that vilifies America's greatest heroes--must have on his bookshelf.

      From the Back Cover
A rousing, rollicking guide to the great war that shaped America--and to the spirit of the Old South that we need so much today.

The politically correct history that dominates our schools and universities insists that Jefferson Davis was another Hitler, Robert E. Lee was the equivalent of Rommel, and the Confederate States of America was our own little version of the Third Reich--a blot on American history. But reality, as always, was different: the Old South, as H. W. Crocker III explains in The Politically Incorrect GuideTM to the Civil War, had immense charm, grace, and merit--and a very strong Constitutional case. This book is a joyful, myth-busting, rebel yell that shatters today's Leftist and demeaning stereotypes about the South and the Civil War--and shows why, in the words of G. K. Chesterton, "America and the whole world is crying out for the spirit of the Old South."

Praise for The Politically Incorrect GuideTM to the Civil War

"You can't understand America until you understand the War of Northern Aggression, and Mr. Crocker tells the story in such a delightful, politically incorrect way that you can't wait to get to the end of his book to see whether Marse Robert actually pulls out a stunning upset. Great scholarship, great story-telling, and great fun."

--Wesley Pruden, editor emeritus of the Washington Times and political columnist

"In short order, Harry Crocker has lifted the modern veil of misinformation surrounding the major actors in the War. In the process, he has rescued the character of Robert E. Lee and shown Union heroes such as Grant, Sherman, and Lincoln to be more human, complex, and in some cases loathsome than contemporary history texts suggest. The South becomes more admirable and the North more contemptible. Here is the War, warts and all, for everyone to see."

--Brion McClanahan, Ph.D. in American History, University of South Carolina

"The only way this idiosyncratic take on the wa-wuh could be any better is if we'd won. Even Harry Crocker couldn't do that, but he has written a witty book full of history and insight. If I'd ever gotten around to joining the United Daughters of the Confederacy, I bet my chapter would thank him. Yankees will enjoy it, too."

--Charlotte Hays, Southern gossip columnist and co-author (among other books) of Being Dead Is No Excuse, The Official Southern Ladies Guide to Hosting the Perfect Funeral

"I had supposed it wasn't possible these days to talk reasonably, as well as informatively, about our great national cataclysm, the Civil War. H. W. Crocker III brings off that extraordinary feat with style, verve, and wit. Give that gentleman a medal for gallantry and public service."

      --William Murchison, nationally syndicated columnist

You'll Never Look at the Civil War in the Same Way Again
      By VTMBA
This is the text that rekindled my interest in history and the War of Northern Aggression. Several of my subsequent purchases in paperback and on Kindle were a consequence of my interest in following up on the curtain thrown back on the pablum that is taught as "Civil War history".

      Good Book But Major Flaw
      By Gordo
Sorry author, your anti-german remark at the end warrants this book a 1 star and into the trash.

You stated you'd doubt the South would follow a "paper hanging corporal with toothbrush mustache"

This just shows your lack of indepth research on Hitler. First of all, Hitler won the Iron Cross 2nd and First Class, those being his most important I suppose. He fought in such battles as Flanders, Somme, just to name some popular ones. But yadda yadda, I guess your handlers made you include atleast 1-2 anti-german remarks. When's the PIG to National Socialism coming out?

Oh good civil war info btw. I recommend it for any civil war beginner.

Recommended for anyone who wants to know the truth
      By Meredith Gray
All of the Regnery Politically Incorrect Books are worth owning, sharing, spreading around. With the way history is constantly being revised and re-written, it is refreshing to just get the facts, without a lot of looking-through-the-rear-view-mirror. It makes me just want to come up screaming with what the media get away with twisting facts to suit their personal agenda. This is a very well-written, well-documented and FACTUAL book. Recommended for anyone who wants to know the truth.
