Costumes, Children, and a jewel heist, oh my.

This story made me laugh all the way through. I got caught up from the first sentence and it didn't let go until the last word.

A party planner joins Atlantis for their first Holloween topside. Liam, a Warrior from a family of questionable background, is fascinated by her and tries to find many ways to get near her, but when a string of thefts upsets her party plans, Liam stays close. Through quick thinking and because Jaime is organized with pictures and copies of everything, they are able to find the culprits before they leave the island. (We don't get to find out who just that they human and we're delta with.)

The main characters are well thought out and vivid. And manage to stay out bed with each other and fully clothed. Which in and of itself was funny. Especially when they when they spend the last of Halloween night on the beach in each others arms. Is this true love? Will they be able to create the soul bond that Poseidon grants his worthy Warriors with? You will have to read to find out.

Five stats for a fun light read. Costumes, children, jewel thieves, oh my. Pick this Novella up if you enjoy her series. Great story to add to these warrior's tales.

Halloween in Atlantis - Liam's Story - And what a story!

I have all of Alyssa Day's books. I'm telling y'all, the women has the God given gift of writing! She can write a shopping list and still make it worth reading. This is a great book. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Although it's a short story, I loved so much to be reading about the Warriors of Poseidon once again. I truly did miss those wonderful characters and all the rest of the gang. What an amazing experience! It's a must read y'all! I just can't wait until her next Warriors of Poseidon book! The entire collection is a must read and surely a must have! However, she does have other books that are just amazing as the Warriors of Poseidon. I truly think y'all should read those too! Enjoy!

Fun holiday read!

I love Alyssa Day's style of writing so purchasing this was a no brainer. She pulls you into her stories by writing such likeable and relatable characters. It was a good length for a single evening of reading. I wouldn't mind a few more details on the robbers in another story. There were only 3 editing errors in the story which isn't bad. They didn't detract from the story one bit. Overall a good purchase and I would recommend it to paranormal fans and fans of the Poseidon series.

so realize that it was not so easy to get that many copies

I ordered 90 copies of this book published in 2003, so realize that it was not so easy to get that many copies. IN the end, I received all in 4 deliveries, the last package approximately 1 week after promised date. The fact of receiving the full order number was more important to me than the delivery date. Prices were quite good.

Excellent Primer or Refresher

This book is an excellent primer or refresher course on the basics of finance and accounting in business. This book is clearly not aimed at finance or accounting folks working in business today as the presented material is far too high level and basic. However, if it has been some years since you have dealt with this material in school, if you have always been on the periphery of this material at work, or if you have never encountered these subjects, then this is a great book to get you going.

The very thought of the subject matter might make some sleepy, but credit to the authors for covering this subject in a short, concise, and relevant way. To the extent that a book of this type could be considered a "page turner" I think this book is it. The subjects are covered using every day language in an efficient and quick moving manner. You never get bogged down in any one subject or esoteric detail and there is nothing academic about the writing style.

On the back cover of the book it is mentioned that the Harvard Business Essentials is designed to provide "comprehensive advice"... While this is clearly marketing speak, it is still quite untrue. There is nothing comprehensive about this book so folks should be careful about taking the Harvard name and the notion of "comprehensive advice" as if this is some sort of definitive text on the subject of finance in business. The material is at the level of the most basic introductory course and if you go in understanding this and desire something to either get you going on the subject or refresh your memory from long ago study, I think this book will fit the bill nicely.

A nice survey of financial reporting

The book contains a number of good articles, introducing some important, basic accounting and finance concepts for non-financial managers. The chapters on Financing Operations and Growth, Budgeting, Practical Tools for Management Decisions and Valuation Concepts were the most informative and relevant. Others, like Taxation and The Time Value of MOney were too simplistic. An OK book if you have limited time to devote to the subject, but it really won't do much more than introduce you to some useful vocabulary, so you won't feel completely intimidated when dealing with your finance staff.

About the Author

Surajit Chattopadhyay has obtained B. Sc. Degree in Physics Honours from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandir, B. Tech., M. Tech. And Ph. D. (Technology) Degree in electrical engineering from Department of Applied Physics of University of Calcutta. He has been involved in research work on power quality in the Department of Applied Physics. He is the recipient of award for “best research paper” by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Government of West Bengal in 2005. He has authored 35 papers published in international and national journals and conferences. Three of his papers have been selected as best paper in international level. He has presented papers in Lyon, France, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has industrial experience on computer interfacing in electrical applications and for last eight years he has been involved in teaching profession in degree and post graduate level. Presently, he is assistant professor in Hooghly Engineering & Technology College and visiting faculty of Department of Applied Physics of University of Calcutta. He is member of IET (UK). His field of interest includes power system protection, power quality and computer interfacing in electrical applications. He has coauthored one book on Basic Electrical Engineering.

Madhuchhanda Mitra has obtained B. Sc. Degree in Physics Honours, B. Tech., M. Tech. and Ph. D. Degree in Electrical Engineering from Univerisity of Calcutta. She has authored more than 60 papers published in international journal and proceedings of international conference. He has authored more than 75 papers published in international journal and proceedings of international conference. He is the recipient of many best paper awards in national and international level. Frustratingly Devoid of Content

I obtained this book through my university (i.e. I didn't pay $129 for its 175 pages). Although no money was wasted, my time and patience was. The need for this book is highly questionable. The first 62 pages are spent racing through definitions and basic concepts. It serves no one. An undergrad student new to the subject does not gain understanding through brief summaries stating "Voltage unbalance is defined as this...Current unbalance is defined as this...Motors heat up in the presence of unbalance." For example, Ch.3 is titled "Unbalance" and is three pages long. Ch. 5 is "Transients" and is four pages long. For professionals or graduate students, the lists of statements are rudimentary and so high-level as to be useless.

And a note to the publisher Springer: If English is not the author's native language, you ought to at least proof-read the book and perform basic editing. Writing "drawl" instead of "draw" numerous times should have been corrected.

Not worth your time, and certainly not worth your money. Not recommended.

Just what I was looking for

This book is perfect for the holiday gathering where you want to impress with something more than just the typical Christmas tunes out of a hymnal. The arrangements are light and refreshing, and perfect for those of us pianists who aren't up to the challenge of improvisation after a couple of adult beverages.

It is not easily sight-readable (be prepared to practice ahead of time), but the book is definitely fun to play, and memorable afterwards. Kudos to the arranger for including the chord symbols as well as the realization. All of the arrangements are perfect as they introduce the tune, do a little development, and then most return to the tune at the end (but beware the DS al codas, as I found the page turns definitely get in the way).

The only tunes that were not to my liking were the Gospel-swing arrangements (Blue Christmas and Silver Bells). While inventive, I felt the style gets old before the pieces have a chance to develop (although this might just be a matter of personal taste). Even if you agree with me, that still leaves 19 pieces that are just about as good as a Christmas piano CD (except live, because you'll be playing them).

If you play the book cover to cover, it'll take about an hour (about which time you'll be ready for someone else to take over at the keyboard, with no takers because the arrangements from this book impressed the crowd). I'll definitely be pulling this book out again next year.

Oh, and because it doesn't say this anywhere else in the info, these arrangements are by Brent Edstrom.

I'm thrilled about this purchase. Let me explain that as a long-time jazz musician (trombone player) and classically trained pianist (but, surprisingly NOT a jazz pianist per se), this book is like gold. I have not had time to play many of the arrangements, so I am going to keep my preliminary review fairly simple. Surprisingly, the technical requirements of this book should not be beyond that of any intermediate to advanced pianist even with a largely classical training. That is because being based primarily on sight reading rather than chordal improvisation, these arrangements can be accessible to anyone who appreciates but has never truly had time to study the discipline. Having said that, some knowledge of the jazz idiom is extremely helpful. Case in point, when playing chords with multiple accidental alterations, it helps to be able to use the chord notations to verify that you are playing the intended harmonies.

What I like most about these arrangements is that they have been written to closely resemble (if not in identical form to) the music that you would hear in commercial recordings. A fairly obvious example of this is "Christmas Time is Here," which blew me away when I first played it because it so closely resembles the Vince Guaraldi version we are used to hearing. It may in fact be a simplified version of what he and other true jazz artists have done with the piece, but it makes the amateur pianist feel as if he or she were playing the original, and that's what this is all about: empowering the performer to expand his/her musical horizons. Indeed, through careful study and rehearsing of these pieces, I believe there is a lot that can be learned about jazz chord progressions and voicings. "A Child is Born" is another arrangements that fits this same pattern. It sounds so much like the versions you hear performed yet continues to be such a hauntingly beautiful piece to play.

I'm sure everyone (myself included) could find things to knit-pick about specific songs or settings they like or dislike, but this is one situation where I am going to review based on the whole of the work rather than its individual parts. If you don't like a particular accompaniment pattern or style, then do what other reviewers have suggested (and done) which is modify or improvise something more to your liking. Play from the chord progressions alone if you are so inclined.

In closing, I will echo the sentiments of another reviewer I followed when selecting this book. I look forward to learning these pieces and hopefully someday playing them to entertain others with arrangements that are refreshing, exciting, and truly contemporary sounding. With 20+ pieces to study, this book is well worth the money. For what it's worth, I see that this is one of a long series of books designed to introduce the amateur pianist to a variety of jazz artists and styles. I expect those who play from those other books will find a similarly rewarding experience. I may well have to explore more of them myself.

Real deal!

I cannot arrange myself, but luckily, publishers such as Hal Leonard and Alfred Publishing do it for me. I have a large collection of various Christmas piano books, I can find many I like. This book will surely become one of my best.
I received it yesterday and have been learning it all day. The first thing you notice about the arrangements is how professional they sound. The sophisticated and fresh chords,and the phrasing. These arrangements sound similar to the ones I've heard on various easy listening radio stations: jazzy, fresh, never boring, Hal Leonard did an outstanding job picking cream of the crop and transcribing them in one lovely book! My absolute favorites are Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and Winter wonderland, but almost every song is just a gem of it's own. Hope you'll enjoy it as much I do.
